April is Earth Month!

April 25, 2023

This month the children at Tiny Hoppers Park Lawn focused Earth Day!

The first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970, when a United States senator from Wisconson organized a national demonstration to raise awareness about environmental issues. Rallies took place across the country and, by the end of the year, the U.S. government had created the Environmental Protection Agency. By 1990, Earth Day was an event celebrated by more than 140 countries around the globe.

At Tiny Hoppers, the educators use a variety of teaching techniques to ensure that the children understand Earth Day and the importance of caring for our environment and the Earth.

The photos shown below highlight some of the activities. For example, one program focused on a hands-on activity called Happy Earth and Sad Earth. The children worked together to distinguish the groups of items that would make the earth happy (flowers and trees) and the items that would make the earth sad, (garbage and waste items) The children also engaged in discussions and self-reflected about their own personal experiences.

Another photo shows the children engaging in sensory activities. The educators created an unhealthy park area and the children used different tools to clean up the garbage and trash from the park area.

Overall, the children learned that keeping our Earth clean and healthy is essential as there is only one heart!
