Dancing at Summerside!

July 14, 2021

We had the incredible honour to host Patrick Mitsuing and his family for Indigenous People’s Day. We organized this event to recognize and celebrate the cultures and contributions of the First Nations, Inuit and Metis Indigenous people. Our children were invited to try bannock, bead a friendship bracelet and watch performances of Fancy, Grass, Jingle Dress and Fancy Shawl types of dance. At the end, the children were invited to participate in a round dance and were told about the different types of dance and learned about the different types of dress the dancers were wearing. It is our intention that the children learn to appreciate and understand diversity, and celebrate the differences and the beauty of each culture.

Thank you to Patrick for allowing us the privilege for such an experience for the children and we extend our gratitude to every dancer and drummer. We appreciate it so much!
