Children's Yoga at Summerside

April 13, 2021

We have introduced yoga in our program at Summerside!! Our assistant director, Shannon, received her certification to start teaching yoga to the children at the centre. It has been such a positive addition! Children benefit from yoga by gaining body awareness, building concentration, stress management through breathing, awareness, meditation and healthy movement which increases their self-confidence and promotes a positive self-image.

Yoga with children helps to develop social relationships as well. Although yoga is generally an individual activity, the entire yoga practice is a social one for children. Children’s yoga will typically include songs, games, and other fun activities that get everyone moving together. This creates a positive, engaging environment in which children can have fun, talk to one another, and learn from each other.

Shannon hosts a yoga class once a week per classroom and since day one, it has been a very popular activity. The children get so excited when they see their yoga mats all set up and when they see Shannon in the hallways, they always ask if it’s time for yoga. We love being able to provide such an amazing activity to the children at the centre and can’t wait to see the children develop their skills and be proud of themselves.
