Benefits of an Obstacle course activity

September 17, 2019

Whether it be a rainy, sunny, cloudy, or cold day an Obstacle course is a great way to get in some physical gross motor play for all ages!

  •  Strength and balance- as the child moves through the obstacle course they will encounter various activities that will test their strength and balance.
  •  Sequencing and memory- the child will be able to memorize specific areas of the task at hand as well as develop their ability to sequence.
  •  Teamwork and Instruction- the child will work with their friends in order to maneuver through some parts of the course as well as listen for instruction from their teacher.

There are so many benefits to setting up an obstacle course as well as countless ways to do so!

An example from our Preschool daycare room) We set up chairs with hoola hoops joining them (back to back) and had the kids crawl underneath them, next we got the children to balance a bean bag on their head and zig zag through pool noodles. The children loved the activity and by the end of it they were so thirsty and ready for a nap!
