First time in Daycare? Tips & Tricks for a smooth transition…

August 23, 2019

1. Visit your daycare with your child and plan a couple of transition days.
2. Play with them in the new setting/classroom, explore the toys together and read the books.
3. Discuss with your daycare/educators their routines for transitions- do you drop and go? Do you stay in the classroom and play? Every centre has different strategies in place to help your child’s transition go smoothly.
4. It is important to confront and address your own feelings about your child starting daycare, and we suggest talking about it with your partner, friend, family member so that you are able to keep a positive attitude around the child when discussing daycare.
5. Use transition objects such as a teddy bear, bracelet etc. to help make drop off easier.
6. It is really helpful to have the educators give you a list of songs they use in their classrooms so that you are able to sing along with your child 😊

Transitioning your child into daycare can be daunting, but we promise that as the days go on your child will adjust to their new routine and look forward to going to daycare!
