January 2018 Newsletter

January 5, 2018

Welcome 2018!

Messages from the Office- This month is Tax Month – I will be handing out tax receipts on Jan 22nd. As of now, I have both parents name on the receipt, if you require me to split the cost on two separate forms, please let me know as soon as possible.

We have made a small change within the centre. Mrs. Paula, from Tiny Tykes 2 will be working in Tiny Tots and Miss Hope from Tiny Tots will now be in Tiny Tykes 2. Both these ladies do an amazing job and the change has been done with ease as most of the children are very familiar with both these teachers

Parents your children’s safety is of the utmost concern for us here at Tiny Hoppers Riverside South!  When ringing the bell, please face the camera (up and to the left of the front door) as with hats and hoods being worn in this very cold weather, it is hard to recognize everyone and by looking up at the camera it is easier for us to identify you and buzz you in, rather than leave you standing out in the cold until we can verify who you are.  Thank you so much!

Tiny Tots- Welcome to all the new friends! We are starting the     year off with Exploration & Creativity. As last year came to an end, the children really enjoyed using paper and crayons to make their own art work- we will be continuing with this interest!

Our second week (Jan 8th – 12th) will be all about Dramatic play. The children will be exploring their Language Skills and Imagination from playing in the house, playing with dolls to dress up clothes.

The third week, we will be adding to our Science table with Sensory play. The children will be exploring sensory bottles, measuring cups and nature inspired objects.

The week of Jan 22nd – 26th, we will be getting messy with Sensory play. Please make sure your children have   a spare change of clothes.

The last week of January, our focus will be on Science & Technology. There will be a variety of dinosaurs!

Tiny Tykes 1&2-We are so excited to be back! We have fun play-based learning activities planned for the next 5 weeks! The activities are open-ended which allows the children to freely explore and experiment!

This week we are engaging in Construction. We will have a friendly snowman building competition between the two classes. There will be a variety of equipment for constructing a snowman!

We will be taking Visual Arts outside for week 2. We will be able to experiment with painting in the snow by using paint in spray bottles. We will also be exploring the areas of Math & Numeracy and Sensory through baking cookies.

Week 3 is all about Physical Fitness! We will be practicing our Gross Motor Skills by tobogganing on the hills in the yard. We ask parents to please bring in a toboggan!

Winter Visual Arts will be happening on week 4. There will be a variety of materials for the children to explore and to create their favorite winter craft.

We observed that the children are interested in baking. So for week 5, we will be learning Math by making a loaf. The children will participate in the decision-making process of the loaf recipe.

Words from our cook-Now that it is a New Year, I have posted a new Winter menu with many new food items for the children to try.  I have posted it on the front wall and I will be posting pictures daily.  If your family has a favorite meal, you can share your ideas with me and we will try to incorporate into our menu!

We hope you have a wonderful year 🙂
