Young children use a range of communication skills to connect with others and their environment.
These include non-verbal gestures, expression through visual arts, along with talking, dancing and
singing. In order to support children’s connection with others, the development of a common spoken
language is important.
Parents can support this learning by
- Reading to your child. Reading aloud to your child is arguably the most effective way to build communication skills.
- Talk to your child.
- Listen to your child.
- Provide plenty of opportunities for your child to communicate with people of all ages.
