Fine Motor Frenzy!

April 6, 2022

Our preschoolers love practicing their fine motor skills as well as partaking in a bit of “risky” play while being allowed to use their own child sized scissors! Some might think that giving preschoolers beads would be considered messy or risky play, and that’s correct! Risky and messy play have so many benefits to a young child’s learning experiences and we are all about creating the best learning moments here at Kanata North! Giving a child a pair of scissors and newspaper will keep them busy for hours! Scissor skills are so important for fine motor strength, hand eye coordination and bilateral coordination, as does beading! The children are using both sides of their bodies to create these masterpieces. One hand is used for cutting or beading, while the other hand is used for holding the paper or pipe cleaner. What a lot of people don’t know is that an activity like this helps prepare a child for much bigger tasks such a zipping up their own zippers!
