5 Things to do with Your Kids Over the Holidays

December 20, 2019

The holidays are the perfect time to spend some quality time with your kids. You can find plenty of fun and exciting activities that are happening close by, regardless if you’re looking for something affordable, free or indoors. Here are 5 things to do with your kids over the holidays this year.

Go Skating

Looking for a way to get your kids off the couch and away from the computer? Skating is the perfect outdoor activity for the whole family to do. Big or small, it’s a great way to get everyone together for a fun afternoon of skating out on the local rink. It’s also a great way to burn off some calories and spend time as a family while warming up with some hot chocolate afterward.

Play in the Snow

Playing in the snow is always a lot of fun, especially for the kids. Get outside this winter when the weather is decent to make snow forts, snow angels, and snowmen. This simple activity gets you and the fam out in the fresh air, soaking up some vitamin D, all while creating fun new memories together. If it’s too chilly outside, then bring the fun indoors and make some cozy pillow forts.

Check Out a Local Museum

When the temperature plummets, head over to a local museum for an afternoon of exploration. A day at the museum offers many unique things to learn about and discover, for you and the kids.  It can also be an affordable activity to enjoy with your kids as most museums offer discounted or free days that help make it a little easier on the pocket.

Go Swimming

When it’s still too cold out and the kids are starting to get antsy, the local pool is another great way for the whole family to get out of the house and burn off some energy. Aside from swimming being an essential life-saving skill, it’s also beneficial for engaging your muscles and enhancing motor function and coordination skills. Plus, it’s always fun to forget about the winter momentarily while you’re splashing around.

Check Out a Winter Program

There’s also a number of winter programs that you can participate in with your kids. For example, you can take the “Mommy & Me Play Classes” that our Tiny Hopper daycare offers year-round. These include 45-minute play classes that are planned and lead by trained instructors. Each class is strategically designed to develop your child’s social, emotional, and motor skills, and to give you some quality time with your kids.
