Our toddler class was busy working away on their independent finger movement this morning. Exercising their fine motor skills to strengthen their finger muscles. Cutting is not just all working on their finger muscles, it also helps exercise their bilateral coordination as it addresses how to hold the scissors in one hand and paper in the other. With proper supervision it is a safe and great activity for the toddlers to practice, as it is an essential skill development. As well, in this activity it adds an element of fun by feeding the monster their desirable shape. This creates an invitation of shape recognition from the students, allowing them to practice and recognize the different shapes and sorting it as well involving the aspect of math. Just one of the many open ended activities we create at Alderbridge, Toddler program.
