As an extension of storytelling through sheets, this class has continued to expand their storytelling into a live, hands-on experience. The learning box was filled with light and featured an interactive story displayed on a rotating wheel, allowing the narrative to unfold from beginning to end. Children were also provided with props representing the Three Little Pigs, along with duplicate copies of the story, to support engagement and imaginative play.
Connection to Learning
This loose-parts experience supported children’s communicative practices and language development. Through shared storytelling, children deepened their understanding of narrative structure, sequencing, and character roles. Children actively participated by rolling the story wheel and using props to act out the story from beginning to end, encouraging collaboration, expressive language, and creative thinking.
Reflection
To extend this learning, alternate narratives and additional loose parts can be introduced to encourage endless storytelling possibilities. Providing a variety of props will continue to support dramatic play and story retelling. Ongoing shared reading will help identify which stories and themes most capture the children’s interests, allowing future experiences to be planned in response to their engagement.
