Our older Tykes have shown a strong interest in Peppa Pig through daily audiobooks and stories. Educators have also noticed how engaged the children are in sharing their own experiences, especially stories about their weekends and daily lives.
To support this interest, the classroom has been set up with a dramatic play space that children can return to each day. Dramatic play provides a collection of materials that help tell stories, encourage role-playing, and invite children to engage, recreate, and reset their ideas daily.
Connection to Learning
This experience gives children a meaningful voice in the classroom. They are encouraged to share their stories, negotiate roles and rules, and collaborate with peers. Through this ongoing play, children engage in problem-solving, extend their narratives, and create characters that support social-emotional development and connection.
Open-ended materials are used creatively for example, loose parts such as small blocks become cakes or meals, and books are transformed into menus. These experiences offer endless opportunities for children to explore their understanding of the world, while finding comfort in expressing and narrating their own life experiences.
Reflection
We will continue to encourage families to contribute items such as birthday bags, party hats, and tissue paper to enrich the play environment.
Educators will also extend children’s thinking by inviting them to reflect on other real-life experiences such as visiting the dentist, going to the zoo, or traveling on an airplane and explore how these experiences made them feel.
