Take Us Outside

At Tiny Hoppers, we have the opportunity to go outside year-round. While the weather determines how long we stay out, these photos reflect the diverse range of activities provided for each classroom.

In the summer, our children aged 2 1⁄2 and up enjoy field trips via yellow bus. These adventures change every year—ranging from lunch at a local park to splashing at a spray deck. We also host special guests, such as Sportball and The Makery, to create responsive, hands-on experiences. A summer favourite in our yard is the water wall, along with our large sunshades that provide plenty of quiet, cool space for the children.

Learning in Community

Outdoor play is a vital part of a child’s day. Whether they are exploring snowy fun or summer sun, being active in the yard allows for supervised, play-filled opportunities. We act as co-imaginers, bringing various activities together to foster holistic learning and a positive disposition toward discovery.

During these outdoor sessions, children have the agency to choose the activities that suit them best. Our educators value these moments, allowing ā€œmighty learnersā€ to explore the unknown, problem-solve, and deepen their play.

Field trips are a huge part of how we engage with our community partners. To ensure safety and wellbeing, we maintain enhanced ratios, frequent headcounts, and additional educator support during every outing. We also welcome parent volunteers to share these memories with their children. These trips build critical thinking skills and provide tangible, lasting memories of trying something new.

In Reflection

Our educators will continue to plan seasonal yard activities based on the children’s current interests—from splashing in muddy puddles on rainy days to exploring frosty textures and windy-day play.

Each year, we ask our centre for the upcoming community field trips of which the center  would like to attend. With our July and August trips approaching, we can’t wait to share our adventures with you!
