SPA DAY

Often, we will see children re-enact their life experiences within their play.

The preschoolers were asking to have their hair brushed and braided throughout the day, and several children arrived back from holidays with new haircuts.

The educators helped flourish this interest by setting up a spa experience where the children could cut “hair”, perform manicures, and do make-up.  So many skills were demonstrated and practiced through these activities.

The children strengthened fine motor skills with scissors use.  They expressed their artistic creativity when using chalk, glue, paint and loose parts to decorate the traced hand mural and inflated gloves.  Social and language skills were evident as the children engaged in conversation with their peers about their own experiences of getting haircuts, getting their nails painted, and playing with makeup at home.
