It develops cognitive understanding of concepts. Here you see our school age children have spent a lot of time making: smart watches, cell phones (with lots of apps) and even a full McDonalds meal (right down to the table number). At their age children will often create stories to go along with their drawings. Here you see an extremely detailed pirate ship! The story that went with it was just as amazing! And a laptop (it even closed) that our friend watched an episode of pepa pig.
