Our annual parent-participation pumpkin patch field trip in October was a wonderful opportunity for our community at Tiny Hoppers Richmond East to come together for a morning filled with laughter, discovery, and seasonal fun! On the morning of the event, children and their families arrived together, excited to explore the farm and spend time with their teachers and friends. Before the pumpkin patch opened, families enjoyed socializing and visiting the farm animals, including chickens, goats, and ducks. Soon, we climbed aboard the wagons for a special ride through the farm, accompanied by a musician playing an instrument and singing songs along the way. As we travelled, we spotted big cows and festive Halloween decorations, building excitement for the adventure ahead.
When we arrived at the pumpkin patch, we were greeted by pumpkins of all shapes and sizes! Families explored the many photo opportunities, including a pumpkin carriage, a big truck, and colourful pumpkin patch signs, while others went through the maze, watched the large moving dinosaurs, and admired the flowers still in bloom. One of the sweetest sights of the day was watching our children, from our youngest infants to our tykes children, proudly trying to lift and carry their chosen pumpkins. These simple moments of curiosity, exploration, and hands-on discovery reflected the heart of our emergent curriculum, where children’s interests and experiences inspired meaningful learning.
Back in the classrooms, each teacher’s pumpkin became an invitation for further exploration as children investigated their pumpkins through sensory experiences, compared their sizes, colours, and textures, and shared their questions and ideas. The children’s curiosity guided our classroom conversations, creative activities, and seasonal learning experiences, allowing us to build on the excitement of our time at the farm. We are grateful to grow, learn, and create wonderful memories together as a community!
