Our week project:
Monday: we put ocean creatures in separate zip-lock bags (every child had his own ocean animal), we poured water and zipped the bags. The children enjoyed touching their bags, squeezing them gently while making their animals move inside. This activity supporter the children’s tactile and visual experiences.
Tuesday: the children played with the bags and observed the ocean creatures growing. (Observing and commenting on whatever is noticed gives the children an opportunity to express themselves and boosts their confidence and self-esteem along with expressive language; it exercises the children’s active listening and attention-regulatory skills)
Wednesday: the children did a “Fish in the ocean” project while cutting out small fish and gluing them to their painted previously paper. And we observed the creatures in the bags growing. It was a great idea to interconnect these two project because it supported the children’s active involvement.
Thursday (today): we let the fish “out of nets” – the children were able to touch their grown animals, pat them and play with them in the water. Older children made comments how much the animals have grown.
The whole project was meant to be a science-sensory project and in a simple way teach children about ocean’s life and enrich their cognitive experiences
