Happy Diwali - The Festival of Lights

November 12, 2023

Diwali is derived from the word “Deepavali” which means “a row of lights”. Celebrants light rows of traditional clay oil lamps outside their homes to symbolize the victory of light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance.

Here at Tiny Hoppers Kanata North, we strive to be an inclusive, all welcoming center. We have a diverse team of staff here that love bringing their own interests, and traditions into our Emergent style curriculum. Our educators planned our very own celebration of lights to share with our children. Our preschoolers watched in amazement as a Diya was lit during circle time while talking about Diwali and it’s importance. Our toddlers engaged in traditional activities such as drawing fake Henna on cut out hand prints, making Rangoli designs out of paper, fruit loops, and even Magformers. These art, sensory, fine motor and Science activities all fall into the Emergent style curriculum we have here at Tiny Hoppers, as our children are deeply engaged by all of these things. When our Educators are able to contribute their own interests into our children’s learning and play, that is where teachers and children’s ideas come together beautifully, to create long lasting, meaningful play learning experiences.

Happy Diwali 2023 from Tiny Hoppers Kanata North!
