September 30th- Day of truth and reconciliation

October 12, 2021

On Thursday September 30th,  all children and staff at Tiny Hoppers Findlay Creek wore orange shirts to remember all the little ones who never made it home to their families. Each classroom did different “activities” or had discussions to raise awareness and make it be known that EVERY CHILD MATTERS.  In our toddler classroom, they made a big heart painted it orange and put handprints on the heart,  as well they made their own chain links with the names of their friends on each circle. In our preschool 1 classroom  the children practiced their beading skills, as well they did a handprint banner in orange with all of their names on it. In preschool 2; the children made beaded orange shirt necklaces, painted orange shirts, as well they had a discussion at circle time. This is what was involved in their discussion “Today we spoke about residential schools and the ill treatment that the indigenous people endured. This talk brought on great conversations with my class. We spoke about being nice and kind to one another, we spoke about how the lives of children matter because children are strong, children are powerful and kind and much more. Our talk today about orange shirt day was so powerful, having these kind of talks teach children empathy and compassion towards each other”.
