In June, Tiny Hoppers Richmond East hosted a special Father’s Day event to celebrate the special dads and father figures in our children’s lives! Each classroom thoughtfully planned and prepared its own unique activities, with the focus on creating meaningful moments between children, families, and educators. On the day of the event, fathers were also surprised with a variety of treats, including snacks and drinks!
In the Squirts classrooms, children and their loved ones enjoyed a soccer themed photo booth, while other families visited the nap room to enjoy a full camping experience and a fun fishing activity! Meanwhile, the Tots classes enjoyed creating airplanes, building a big city for vehicles and children to climb and slide, and learning how to play different sports activities. In the Tykes classroom, one class invited their dads in to the classroom for a prepared song and dance, followed by a fun dance freeze game. Another classroom had a wizard themed photo booth, and had the opportunity to go outside and make giant bubbles! A highlight of the celebration was the handmade gifts, where each child created a variety of gifts including mugs, plaques, canvas art, and baseball hats. Children also handmade cards for their families, with many of them including a funny photo of their child in a fun pose!
As an emergent curriculum childcare centre, these community events are an important part of how we extend children’s learning, as they allow educators to build upon children’s interests and real-life relationships in meaningful ways. Events like Father’s Day help us plan for and create learning experiences with children and families, ensuring that the learning that happens in the classroom is responsive and connected to their lived experiences.
