Cozy At-Home Activities for Winter Days

Here are three kid-friendly indoor activities perfect for snow days, sick days, or cozy weekends at home.

1. Holiday Sensory Bin
Fill a bin with uncooked rice or dry oats. Add scoops, spoons, bells, pinecones, and little holiday treasures. This supports fine motor development and keeps children busy while you sip warm tea.

2. “Build a Warm Winter Animal” Craft
Print simple outlines of foxes, owls, or bears. Give your child scraps of cotton balls, fabric, or tissue paper and let them decorate cozy “fur” for their animal. Bonus tip: Extend this idea with an empty box and have your child create that animal’s home!

3. Frozen Treasure Rescue
Freeze small toys in a container of water overnight. Give your child warm water in squeeze bottles or spoons to melt the ice and “rescue” the treasure. Great for science play and strengthening little hands.
