When people think about childcare, they often picture educators leading activities, comforting children, and connecting with families throughout the day. While our educators are such an important part of our center, there are also many incredible people working behind the scenes who help make each day successful for our children.
This month at Tiny Hoppers Oshawa, our “Thankful Wednesday” was dedicated to someone who plays a huge role in our children’s everyday lives, OUR CHEF.
Every morning, before classrooms fully come to life, our chef is already hard at work preparing fresh meals and snacks for the children. From carefully selecting ingredients to making meals with love and care, she helps ensure our children are nourished, comfortable, and happy throughout the day. For many children, mealtimes are one of their favourite parts of their routine, and seeing their excitement around food is always so special.
What makes her role even more meaningful is the relationship she has built with our children and families over time. Many of our children love stopping by to say hello or thank her after meals, and families often share stories about how excited their children are about the food served at the center. Those little moments show how impactful these behind-the-scenes roles truly are.
To celebrate her during Thankful Wednesday, we invited families, children, and educators to share notes of appreciation. We created a special board filled with kind messages, drawings, and heartfelt thank-you notes that highlighted just how loved and appreciated she is within our community. Our families and educators also brought thoughtful gifts to recognize all the care and hard work she puts into each day.
Each classroom also created a special card for her filled with children’s drawings, handprints, and sweet messages. Seeing the excitement the children had while making something just for her was such a meaningful part of the celebration. It gave the children an opportunity to express gratitude in their own way and recognize someone who cares for them every single day.
It was such a beautiful reminder that childcare is truly a team effort.
The people working behind the scenes may not always be the first faces families see at drop-off and pick-up, but their impact is felt in so many ways. Whether it’s preparing healthy meals, keeping our environments clean and safe, or supporting the daily operations of the center, these team members help create the warm, nurturing environment that our children experience every single day.
At Tiny Hoppers Oshawa, we believe every role matters because every role contributes to a child’s sense of comfort, belonging, and care. This Thankful Wednesday gave us the opportunity to slow down and recognize one of the many people who help make our community feel like family.
