The Tykes were deeply engaged in imaginative and sensory play with dinosaurs. After yesterday’s sensory activity, one child enthusiastically asked, “Ms. B, can we wash our dinosaurs?” Following the children’s interest, we extended their learning by creating a dinosaur washing station.
The children carefully washed their dinosaurs using water and sponges. As they worked, they talked about whose dinosaur was the cleanest, shared the sponges, and took turns with one another. Their conversations and cooperative play demonstrated kindness, respect, communication, and an understanding of sharing.
At another table, the children became dinosaur rescuers. They worked together to carefully remove tape from the dinosaurs, discussing different ways to free them safely. Once the dinosaurs were rescued, they used wooden blocks to build a secure habitat for them. Throughout this experience, the children demonstrated teamwork, problem-solving, perseverance, and creative thinking as they planned, negotiated, and built together.
The adventure continued outdoors, where the children explored the playground with their friends. They worked together to dig holes and extended their imaginative dinosaur play while developing friendships, cooperation, and gross motor skills.

Educator Reflection / Next Steps
The children’s growing interest in dinosaurs provides many opportunities for further exploration. We will extend their learning by creating a dinosaur habitat using natural materials, adding dinosaur footprints and fossils to the sensory area, introducing fiction and non-fiction dinosaur books, and encouraging the children to draw, paint, and dictate stories about their dinosaur adventures. These experiences will continue to nurture inquiry, creativity, communication, collaboration, and a deeper understanding of the world around them.
