Educators created this playful setup through a creative use of furniture. By wrapping layers of saran wrap around table legs and stretching it across, they designed a bouncy, resistant surface where children can joyfully bounce dolls up and down.
Connection to Learning
Through this experience, children have had rich opportunities to explore cause and effect. With their curious minds at work, they experiment with different ways to bounce the dolls, discovering how much force is needed and what happens when the dolls fall through the saran-wrap layers.
The children are deeply engaged in this agentic, repetitive play, returning to the experience again and again. They experience an exhilarating sensation through their bodies as they push and pull against the tension of the Saran Wrap. The dolls, in turn, move in playful, dizzying ways as they bounce – adding to the excitement and wonder of the activity.
