6 Fun Rainy Day Activities for Your Little One

September 11, 2018

Looking for some interesting ways to keep your child busy and entertained during those damp and overcast afternoons? We have you covered! Here are a few fun rainy day activities for your little one to enjoy when you’re all cooped up inside.

Take a Trip to the Library

If you’re eager to get out of the house but stay inside somewhere dry, take a trip to your local library. This may not always sound like the most entertaining spot for adults, but for kids, it can be a great resource to utilize on those rainy days. In fact, many libraries host storytime and other kid-friendly activities during the daytime and holidays. Check out your local library listings to see if there are any activities that you can attend.

Create an Indoor Treasure Hunt

A treasure hunt is another fun activity that kids always love. You can choose a selection of things to hide around the house (maybe some candy), give your kid a small box for collecting their treasures and set them off on a hunt!

Have a Dance Off

When the rain is pelting down, there’s no better time to throw on some music and have a dance off with your kids. This not only keeps them preoccupied, but it also gets them up off the couch, away from their digital devices and lets them burn off some energy.

Get Creative With Paint

If you have some paint and a few sheets of paper, throw down some newspapers on the kitchen table and set your little one up for an afternoon of creativity. Encourage them to use their imagination and paint whatever they wish — dinosaurs, castles, animals, and anything they can think of.

Bake Together

Kids love to help out when you’re baking up a batch of cookies or sweet treats, especially when they can enjoy them after helping out. You can hop online to find a few kid-friendly recipes or just put them in charge of the tasting to get them excited and involved. This is also a great opportunity to teach them while you bake.

Play Dress Up

If your child has a dress-up box, or if you’re willing to let them rummage through your wardrobe, playing dress up can be fun and even entertaining for you as you watch them create their own hilarious outfits. Plus, your little one will love running around pretending to be all grown up.
