5 Outdoor Activities for Your Little Ones

June 18, 2021

Keeping the kids entertained throughout the summer can be a challenge for most parents. If you’re struggling to think of ideas, here are a few fun outdoor activities for your little ones that will spark their interest and keep them occupied for a few hours each day.

Arts and Crafts Outside

Let your kids get wild with their imagination. You can set up an area for some arts and crafts in the backyard so they can get messy without having to worry about damaging anything inside. Get some paint, contact paper, playdough and whatever else they might enjoy crafting with. You could even incorporate nature into craft time, combining leaves, rocks and other items outside into works of art. For something really cool, get some flowers and dip them into paint and then use the paintbrush to make a unique masterpiece with the kids.

Play Time with Bubbles

Whether you make your own bubbles, use a bubble machine or get out a giant wand to play with, bubbles are always a hit. It’s a simple but fun way to get the kids outside, laughing and having fun.

Play Time in the Water

Kids usually love spending time splashing around in the water. Even if you don’t have a pool, a small inflatable pool or even a makeshift splash pad and sprinkler can be all that you need to enjoy some family time in the sun.

Sandbox

Does your kid love to dig in the dirt? It’s a great way for them to learn and develop through touching. It also helps them develop their imagination by using their senses. If you have the space and resources, create a sandbox in the backyard so they can play with toy shovels, dig away and build their own sandcastles. If a sandbox isn’t possible, create a simple sensory bin. They’ll have just as much fun with it and can enjoy some imaginary playtime.

Sensory Scavenger Hunt

Another great way to help with their sensory development while having fun is with a scavenger hunt. You can use nature-based items around your yard, nearby trail or park. Then attach them to a piece of paper and set your children off on the hunt.
