We began our Canada Week celebration by reflecting with gratitude on the many cultures and countries that make up our community, and on the journeys that brought our families and educators to Canada. The children explored a Canada-themed tuff tray filled with Alberta and Canadian flags, as well as flags representing the countries of origin of parents and teachers. As they looked closely at the colours, shapes, and symbols, the children showed curiosity and wonder, asking questions and making connections to their own families and community.
The children also explored Canadian landmarks through imaginative play, building structures with magnetic tiles and creating train tracks around the Alberta and Canada flags. These materials encouraged storytelling, collaboration, and problem solving as the children shared ideas and worked together. During our flag-raising activity, the children listened to the Canadian anthem playing in the background while proudly waving their Canadian flags high in the air.
Our celebration continued through creative art experiences. The children stamped red maple leaf designs onto printed maple leaf patterns and created colourful fireworks by stamping paint onto the tuff tray. Through these joyful experiences, the children expressed creativity, explored Canadian symbols, and celebrated the diversity and belonging within our classroom community.
