Let’s Talk Transitions! From Tiny Toes to Big Kid Shoes

Making Change a Little Easier (for Everyone)

Transitions can bring big feelings — whether your little one is starting daycare for the first time, moving up into a new room, or heading off to kindergarten. We totally get it — these changes can be exciting, emotional, and sometimes a little overwhelming. The good news is: you’re not alone.

We’ve supported many families through every stage, and with the right tools and mindset, transitions can be smooth and even fun! Below, we’ve shared what to expect and how to support your child (and yourself!) through every step — from starting in our Infant Program to saying goodbye for kindergarten.

Starting in the Infant Program

This is often the first time your baby is away from you — and it’s completely normal for drop-offs to feel a little emotional (yes, for parents too!).

What to expect:

  • Short, gradual visits at first (we’ll ease them in slowly!)

  • Lots of cuddles, songs, and sensory play to help them feel safe and secure

  • Updates through our app to keep you in the loop during the day

Tips for parents:

  • Bring a familiar item from home like a blanket, soft toy, or even a mom-scented shirt

  • Label everything — bottles, pacifiers, clothes, sleep sacks

  • Talk about daycare in a happy tone — they may not understand your words, but they’ll feel your energy

  • Stay consistent — even if the first few days are hard, sticking to the routine really helps

Infant to Toddler Transition

Your baby is growing! This transition means more space to explore, new toys, a bit more structure, and a classroom full of busy toddlers on the move.

What to expect:

  • Introduction to new routines (group snack/lunch, circle time, outdoor play)

  • More opportunities to develop self-help skills (feeding themselves, washing hands, etc.)

  • Familiar educators helping during transition visits to provide comfort

Tips for parents:

  • Practice some toddler-friendly routines at home (washing hands before meals, tidying up toys)

  • Encourage independence and let them try things on their own — yes, it might get messy

  • Keep communication open — we’ll let you know how they’re adjusting, and you can always ask questions

Toddler to Tykes

This stage brings more independence, early toilet learning, and social skills. It’s also where you’ll see more structured programming and themed activities.

What to expect:

  • More focused circle times and creative learning activities

  • Early toilet learning (with support and encouragement)

  • Group mealtimes, routine transitions, and hands-on sensory and STEM experiences

Tips for parents:

  • Start toilet learning at home if you haven’t already — consistency is key!

  • Celebrate small milestones: “You pulled up your pants all by yourself!”

  • Keep a consistent morning routine so they feel ready for the day

Tykes to Kindergarten

It’s time for the big move — from preschool to school-age! Your child is becoming more independent, social, and emotionally aware. We spend a lot of time preparing them for this exciting milestone!

What to expect:

  • School-readiness programming: practicing lunchbox routines, putting on coats, listening to instructions

  • Increased focus on group learning, emotional regulation, and conflict resolution

  • End-of-year celebrations to help mark the occasion and bring closure

Tips for parents:

  • Visit the school together — walk by, play in the yard, maybe attend an orientation

  • Practice using containers, backpacks, and bathroom routines independently

  • Create a countdown calendar or talk through what a “school day” will look like

  • Keep your emotions calm and confident — children pick up on your energy!
