Maple Syrup Field Trip

This week, our preschoolers had the sweetest adventure as we visited the Maple Syrup Sugar Bush at Mountsberg Conservation Area! The trip was part of our hands-on learning experience about the process of making maple syrup, and let me tell you, it was a day full of excitement, discovery, and, of course, delicious syrup!

Our guide, a friendly and knowledgeable naturalist, greeted us with a warm smile and quickly captivated the children’s attention with a fun puppet show about how maple syrup is made. The puppets explained how maple sap is collected and boiled down into the syrup we all love to pour on pancakes!

After the puppet show, we hopped on a cozy wagon and rode through the woods to the heart of the sugar bush. The kids were eager to learn about the trees, and the guide showed them how to tap a maple tree to collect the sap. Each child even had a chance to try tapping a tree themselves, which was a thrilling hands-on experience for them!

The group then visited the sugar shack, where we saw the sap being boiled down into thick, golden syrup. The kids were fascinated by the steam rising from the boiling pots and loved watching the transformation happen right before their eyes. They even got to taste some fresh maple syrup. Sweet and sticky, just the way they like it!

It was a wonderful day full of learning, laughter, and memories that will last a lifetime. Not only did the children get to experience the magic of maple syrup production, but they also had the opportunity to appreciate the environment around them, from the towering maple trees to the peaceful, quiet woods. We are so grateful for the team at Mountsberg Conservation Area for creating such a fun and educational field trip for our little learners.

If you’re looking for a sweet and educational adventure for your preschoolers, we highly recommend a visit to the Maple Syrup Sugar Bush at Mountsberg! It’s an experience that will have your little ones buzzing with excitement and maybe even a little extra energy from all that maple syrup!
