One of our Preschool age groups turned their classroom into a hospital! These future doctors were enjoying dramatic play, giving checkups, using stethoscopes, and helping their “patients” feel better. They also enjoyed learning what their bodies can do by using balloons and straws – the children were fascinated to see how the balloons inflated and deflated. They also made “Macaroni brains” – gluing pasta onto brain outlines to see how the brain looks and to talk about how it helps us think and learn and “Hand X-ray skeletons” – tracing their hands and adding “bones” using straw pieces to understand what’s inside our bodies.
