Celebrating Culture, Kindness, and Community This February at Tiny Hoppers Rymal

At Tiny Hoppers Rymal, we believe that learning goes far beyond letters and numbers. It’s also about helping children understand the world around them, celebrate differences and practice kindness every day. February was especially meaningful, as we recognize Black History Month, Lunar New Year, Ramadan and Valentine’s Day, each offering beautiful opportunities for learning, reflection and connection.

Honouring Black History Month

During Black History Month, we introduce children to the idea that people of all backgrounds have helped shape our world. Through age-appropriate books, music, art, and conversations, we celebrate the achievements, creativity and contributions of Black leaders, artists and everyday heroes. Most importantly, we focus on themes of fairness, respect and inclusion, values that help children grow into compassionate individuals.

Welcoming the Lunar New Year

The Lunar New Year is a joyful time that celebrates new beginnings and hopes for the year ahead. Children learn about traditions such as family gatherings, special foods, colourful decorations and animals of the zodiac through stories, crafts and play. It’s a fun way to explore how families around the world celebrate milestones and welcome good fortune together.

Learning About Ramadan

Ramadan is a special month observed by many Muslim families, centered on kindness, patience, gratitude and helping others. In our classrooms, we talk about these values in simple, child-friendly ways. We may read stories, create moon and star art and discuss how people show care for their families and communities during this time. These conversations help children understand empathy and respect for different traditions.

Sharing Love on Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is a perfect opportunity to focus on friendship and kindness. Rather than just candy and cards, we encourage children to express appreciation, practice sharing and use kind words. Activities often include making cards for friends, talking about what it means to be a good friend and celebrating the love we feel in our classroom community.

By recognizing and celebrating these special occasions, we help children see that our differences make our community stronger. We are proud to create a space where every child and family feels seen, respected and valued, today and every day.
