Fun Things to do at Home, Which Also Help With Child Development.

There are many many things to do at home which aid in a child’s development. When it comes to children in an early years setting, we all know that they just want to move and have fun. Where they get the abundance of energy remains a mystery, but let’s take a look at a few activities that are child approved, easy to do and help children to develop in many useful ways.

First Things First, Getting Messy!

Water play and sand play provide amazing sensory opportunities for children among many other benefits. Sand play can be a wonderful tool for building on their self confidence when making and knocking down sand castles or simply digging holes. It can also help children with team work, patience and social skills if playing with others. Water play is fantastic, almost all children love getting messy with water play! If given different containers or funnels etc. water play can help children massively with hand eye coordination, with measurements and even understanding that actions have consequences when they end up soaked from dumping water outside of the water tray.

Get Creative.

If you find yourself having a day inside whether it’s due to the weather (because, Alberta) or any other reason, letting the creative juices flow is a wonderful way to keep everyone entertained. Arts and crafts are an amazing creative outlet. Giving children pens, pencils, paint brushes or chalk helps to develop fine motor skills and hand eye coordination in children of all ages. You may even find that your child has a natural skill and ability when it comes to art, and that is something worth nurturing. Music and dancing are a forever favourite among many of our friends, gross motor skills are improved and well as coordination too. Plus, who doesn’t love seeing the littles throw some shapes on the dance floor!

Get Outside.

Exploring the great outdoors, whether on the trail, at the park or even just in the back yard creates many learning experiences for children. Exploring bugs, plants and wildlife are just some of the things that can help our children, especially when there is an adult that can help to teach them about what they are seeing. Outdoor materials such as pine cones, twigs, leaves and flowers are also fantastic to be used in arts and crafts too.

In short, there are an abundance of things we do everyday that benefit our children greatly. Each day is filled with learning opportunities for children and adults alike, so lets make the most of them and grow together!
