Make Family New Year's Resolutions

January 11, 2021

There comes a sense of new beginnings with the new year. The feeling that anything is possible. It is a time that we can make new resolutions, and stick with them. We are often scrambling around, when new year approaches, trying to figure what kind of personal goals to set for ourselves. What can be more fun than setting some family new year resolutions with children! Things that you will do together in the coming new year. Take a look at the ideas below and work with your family to help make this the best year ever!

  1. Spend more quality time together:

Life is busy. Take a look at your children. The old cliche of children growing up too fast really does ring true, I can attest to that first hand.  I remember when they were small enough to hold in my arms? Where did the time go? Make a resolution to spend more time talking and playing together with them. Set up a family game night. No electronics allowed. No phones in the room or tablets or even television. Teach your child how to simply relax and rest, being a role model yourself, without screens. Read by a fire, enjoy a nap or cook a meal together. Just you and the little one/ones. They will love your undivided attention, and you will be surprised at how many special memories can be made over such simple activities.

  1. Eat healthier:

It sometimes seems like an impossible task to get young children to eat their fruits and vegetables. But make it your goal to sneak them in anyway possible. Try pureeing a few carrots and adding them to a spaghetti sauce. Make it a weekly routine to grocery shop together and pick out a fruit or vegetable you have never tried. Make it fun!

  1. Spend more time outdoors:

Just because it is winter, does not mean you cannot get outside. Bundle up and make a snowman. Go for a walk and look at how the neighbourhood changes through the seasons. Even if it is later in the evening, a sunset can be a beautiful thing to watch with your children or take a look at the stars together.

It is never too late to start something new. These ideas, while seemingly small, can make a big impact on you and your children. You can never go wrong spending time with your children. Do not forget to take some pictures! With 2020 passing by in a flash, it is important we make 2021 memorable.
