Happy September and happy start to a new school year! With the fresh Fall air just around the corner, classes are moving into the next season with consideration about the change of clothing attire, weather appropriate activities, and how to combat the seasonal germs that come along with it.
In the classrooms, children are encouraged to wash their hands often, learning the fundamentals of hand washing as early as 10 months old and continuing throughout all classes and age groups. As part of the classroom curriculum, teachers can offer activities to teach these skills such as through water play, songs, and bubbly sensory tables. Children are exposed to books about hand washing, sneezes, and wearing appropriate clothing for different seasons.
While the weather changes outside, children begin to understand the difference between t-shirts and sun hats, to muddy buddies and rain boots. When the classes go outside, they may notice how cloudy days feel colder, chilly wind makes the leaves fall, and when it rains – puddles form. During this time, classes will adapt their curriculum and daily routines to support the health and well-being of the children and teachers.
In our school, educators follow a weekly cleaning schedule, ensuring the cleanliness and sanitization is being cared for. Our two step process of cleaning includes using the trusted Diversey chemical system, which includes a soap and sanitizer. The two sprays are used to clean toys, furniture, and high touch areas in the classrooms and shared spaces. When we observe an increase of colds, our Support Staff are initiating double cleaning schedules in an effort to maintain health and safety. Our janitorial service cares for our facility after closing hours, to ensure the next day of school is starting fresh.
As we head into Fall, we thank everyone for being mindful of the germs going around and keeping your children at home to rest if they are feeling unwell! We look forward to learning together through the next season.
