Ice Sensory Play

2021-06-10

Summer is almost here – which means it’s time to do more ice and water play!

Toddlers are busy “rescuing” frozen bugs by using tools to either break or melt the ice.

This simple activity helps develop:

  • fine motor skills
  • eye-hand coorindation
  • patience
  • determination
  • resourcefulness
  • problem-solving skills
  • social skills

We also learn about different concepts such as:

  • phases of matter (solid and liquid, melting process)
  • bugs
  • senses (sense of touch, coldness)
  • cause-and-effect (what happens if we break it? if we squirt water on it?)

…all while having fun!

Tools used: screwdriver, hammer, chisel, eye dropper, squirt bottle, salt, cups
