We observed that all of our children absolutely love water play! They love having the freedom to explore, make messes and experiment with cause and effect. So we thought, what better way to encourage this type of play based learning while also being able to enjoy the nice weather, than to build a water wall! This DIY project was made with love and care by us for our children’s huge interest in messy water play.
Through this type of play, children are developing motor skills, fine and gross! They are also strengthening their hand-eye coordination as they pour water through different sized tubes and funnels. Water wall play also touches base on Math and Science concepts as they watch the water flow through the different tubes, and through turnstiles. This poses questions such as, how is the water making its way through the tubes? How is the turnstile moving once water hits it, and why? How long would it take water to get through one tube, compared to a different tube? The learning questions are endless! Water play provides hours of rich and valuable early childhood experiences to develop a child’s curiosity, creativity, and imagination. At Tiny Hoppers, we love to acknowledge that the environment is a teacher, and we love that water play is not only a super fun activity, but also a great educational one!
