Paramount Plays!

November 1, 2017

Hi Parents,

This month we wanted to share some information about a new item in our classrooms.
We have introduced “Loose Parts” Trays.

Loose Parts is a wonderful term coined by architect Simon Nicholson, who carefully considered landscapes and environments that form connections. Nicholson believed that we are all creative and that “loose parts” in an environment will empower our creativity. Many play experts and early childhood educators adapted the theory of loose parts.

Each program was given a tray with different items placed in it. This month some of the items included: colourful gems, natural rocks, small wooden blocks, wooden skewers & Popsicle sticks. The children are encouraged to explore these items how ever they see fit.

We have seen sculptures grow while adding play dough, items placed perfectly to create a balance beam and imaginative play explode while exploring these trays.

Until next time
