Truth and Reconcilitation Day

October 22, 2024

At River Valley we understand the importance of teaching young children about Truth and Reconciliation Day. It is vital for fostering empathy, respect, and understanding of diverse histories. When we teach them about the experiences of Indigenous peoples and the impact of colonization, we cultivate awareness and compassion in the next generation in our country. This awareness encourages children to appreciate cultural diversity and promotes a sense of responsibility toward healing and justice. When we educate our tiny hoppers about these important moments in our history we are empowering them to contribute to a more inclusive and friendly society.

At River Valley our tiny hoppers learned about this important day by doing various activities and reading books during circle time where they explored the history and culture of the Indigenous people in our country. Every room created different art work with hand prints to symbolize our respect for everyone in the community and our commitment at River Valley to understanding and honoring diverse backgrounds. Our tiny hoppers learned the importance of why we wear orange shirts on this day so they made their own shirts and some had handprints to symbolize that every child matters. Through their creative art work we want to foster a sense of belonging and confirm the importance of inclusivity and respect for all cultures. At River Valley all children matter and they are what make our center beautiful!
