How to Keep Your Kids Active During the Colder Months

November 22, 2019

Staying active in the winter can be challenging, especially when all we want to do is wrap ourselves up with a warm blanket and watch movies all day long. However, it is important to keep moving and continue our regular physical activity to maintain our mental and physical health. Here are some of the best ways to keep your kids active during the colder months.

You Can Still Go Outside!

Even though it might be chilly, encourage your kids to go outside. Make sure that they are dressed accordingly to the weather by wearing layers, warm socks, hats, mittens or gloves. Once you get outside and start moving around, you will start to feel warm, and you’ll even get your heart rate up. Simple outdoor activities can include: walking your dog, playing outdoor games with friends, and going tobogganing.

Winter Sports

A great way for your kids to get their daily physical activity and to meet new friends is by enrolling them in sports. Whether it be an individual or team sport, there is something out there for everyone! Take advantage of the snow by registering your kids for skiing or snowboarding lessons, and you never know, they might become the next Olympian. Canada’s official national winter sport is….hockey! Thankfully, there are many teams of all levels ready to teach your child everything they need to know about the great game of hockey from skating, stick handling, agility training to conditioning training. Talk with your child about some options and see whether they are interested in trying a specific sport.

I Can’t BRRR it Anymore

When the weather is completely unbearable, try to find other locations other than your house that incorporate physical activity. Gather up some of your kids’ friends and head to the nearest skating rink, shoot some pucks on the net or just skate around, get your legs moving. There are also various community centers that offer indoor physical activities, such as swimming in the indoor pool and playing basketball at the indoor court.

At Tiny Hoppers, your kids will always be moving no many the time of year! We provide a safe, fun, and unique play environment for your kids. Find the location nearest you and give us a call
